Green Monster – Solva Swim

Green Monster and Black Run


Both the Green Monster and Black run are the original in the Swim to the edge series. Set in Solva an idyllic harbour village, in the middle of the Pembrokeshire coast national park. The date and format of the 2025 event will be published before the New Year, So keep an eye out.

The Green Monster Solva Swim (approx 2 miles)

A Tough Swim

There are no buoys marking the route. You will swim out of the harbour into St Brides Bay and around the imposing Green Scar Island that dominates the horizon. The Swim has a number of challenging points. Mainly the exit out of the harbour past black rock, The mental challenge of the deep water and the swell of the bay. Then navigating and combating the swell as you round green scar and finally the sighting as you head back to the harbour.

All of this makes the swim one of the most scenic and challenging open water swims in the UK. It’s a ral swimming challenge.

The Black Run 1mile (approx)

The black run is approximately 1 mile and like the Green Monster, you will have the challenges of combating the swell as you come out of the harbour into deep water. Before rounding buoys and getting your sighting right to get you back into the harbour. It is easier than the Green Monster, but not easy. You have to be comfortable swimming in swell and deep water.

Overview
Only experienced sea swimmers should attempt these swims. Do not let these swims be your first sea swim.

Skin Swimmers
We actively welcome Skin swimmers at our events. But we ask that they are honest about their experienced and ability. Our bench march is, having swam a similar distance, in UK waters within the past 12 months without a wetsuit. That they have trained for this event as a skin swimmer.
