Results for Ras Dewi Sant 2019

Further details will be published nearer the time and when things return to some sort of normality. Until then stay safe everyone.

However we can confirm that new for 2021 will be the RDS40 a 40 mile ultra along the coast path. This race will also be part of our new Ultra Series for more info on the Ultra Series please Click Here. To read more about RDS40 please hit the tab. (Please note the Ultra Series has been put back to 2022)

The Ras Dewi Sant routes are predominately on the Coast Path and pass by some of the most scenic and historical sites in Wales. The half is a challenge but an achievable one for all. It has a great atmosphere amongst the runners and a great day out but not one to be underestimated. Whilst the full is a challenge for anyone. It has been described as one of the most beautiful and difficult Marathons in Europe. As the course takes you around the UK’s only coastal National Park and should be on any runners bucket list.

The 10K run will be a mixture of road and coast path and of course will include the great, iconic and challenging finish of up the Cathedral hill and its steps on the way to the finish line.

The Ras will be based at The Bishops Pub/Restaurant on St Davids Cross Square with the start and finish no more than 40 metres away.

No new Bookings been taking at the moment

Runners will meet at the The Bishops pub in Cross Square and then be transferred by bus to the new starting point at St Nicholas, 10 Miles North of St David’s. From there the competitors will run just under a mile to Abermawr where they will join the coast path and start heading south taking in the splendid fishing village of Porthgain and Abereiddy Bay.

From Abereiddy you will cover some of the toughest terrain the course has to offer. With some of the most breath taking views anywhere in the UK as you make your way to Whitesands Beach.  Amongst the constant undulating elevation that you will face there are two decent climbs – the first on about the 9 mile mark at Penberi (this sneaks up on you!) and the second is on 14 miles and a bit naughty as we take you on a diversion, just so you can experience the Carn Llidi Climb AKA The Whitesands Challenge Hill!  Following this you will re-join the coastpath and head down to the aid station at Whitesands Beach.

From here you will pick up the half marathon route and continue on the Coast Path for a further 8 mile stint along this spectacular part of the National Park until you reach St Non’s, (birthplace of St David) taking in the scenic sights of St Justinian’s, Ramsey Sound & The Bitches and Porthclais along the way.

Then on the 25.5 mile mark when you start to think that’s that and you’re almost finished you reach ‘The Sting in the Dragons Tail’! The spectacular site of the 12th Century Cathedral, it’s 39 steps and the Pebbles Hill, which are all amazing as they lead you UP to the finish line at the Cross Hotel in the heart of the City, just pray it’s not a sprint finish.

On the positive side of things the first half of the marathon is a fair bit tougher than the second!

Ras Dewi Sant – Half Marathon

Date – Saturday 27th March 2021

No new bookings being taken at the moment

The Half Marathon will start in the heart of St. David’s near to race HQ at the Bishops Pub/Restaurant From here you will run 2.5 miles which takes in the City and rural roads towards Whitesands Beach. New for 2020 will see the Runners heading right and up and over “The Mountain” and down onto Porth Melgan before heading back to Whitesands. This first section will help split the pack before you reach The Coast Path.

The New changes have been added to bring a bit of variety to the course and to show off some more excellent scenic locations the coast has to offer. It also allows us the get the distance back to 13.2 Miles.

At the beach you will join the Coast Path for a 9 mile stint along this spectacular section of the National Park that will take you around to Caerfai Bay. These 9 miles will see you taking in the scenic sights of St Justinian’s, Ramsay Island, Porthclais, and St Nons (St Davids Birth place). During miles 4.5 to 9 you really will be out in the wilds and face the toughest part of the course as you run along the Ramsay Sound, making your way from the Lifeboat Station to the aid station at Porthclais Harbour. It may be hard but this is also one of the most magical places you will visit and it is there to be enjoyed!

Once you arrive in Caerfai there is a slight pull as course starts to take you back inland and then around the country bridleways and roads on the outskirts of the City until you reach mile 12.5 and the last challenge of the day – ‘The Sting in the Dragons Tail’! this is the spectacular 12th Century Cathedral, it’s 39 steps, the Pebbles Hill and the finish on the Cross Square. If you get yourself involved in a personal battle with another, a sprint finish will be interesting!!!

Registration

The RDS40 Ultra Run. This event is taking place on Sunday 28th March 2021. Bookings are being taken

BOOK HERE £50

If we have to cancel or postpone the RDS40 Ultra because of Covid-19 or Weather we will look to rearrange the event and or offer full refund. No refunds will be given if the event is still running. (unless people are living in localised lock down areas)

We are currently not taking bookings for the other RDS distances as the events are full

Booking Conditions

Organising events relies on pre-bookings, to establish what our outlays will be and how much of everything there is to order. Therefore so that we are not left at a loss by ordering unnecessary items the following policy is in place.

  • You can obtain a refund of 80% up until a month before the event
  • No refunds will be issued after 1 month before the start of the event
  • You can transfer your place to another runner up until 48hrs before the start of the event.
  • You can defer your place to the following years event up until 2 weeks before the start of the event.
  • You can transfer your entry to another event of the same value, up until 2 weeks before the event (assuming there is space on the other event)

Our events are held in the outdoors in wonderful places and that is what makes them challenging and spectacular. Unfortunately from time to time extreme weather conditions can cause serious disruption to the areas of the event or make the running of the event unsafe or irresponsible. On such occasions we may have to postpone the event. If this is done we will look for the nearest possible date to reschedule the event. If a rescheduled date proves to be unsuccessful or one can not be found entries will be deferred to the following years event.

What this means is

If an event is cancelled due to adverse weather, or an unforeseen incident, emergency or such matter that is totally out of our control;

  • No refunds will be given
  • You will be deferred to the new date
  • If the New date does not suit you, you will be transferred to the following years event.
  • Throughout this process you will have the opportunity to transfer your place to another person or swap to another of our events of the same value.

We hope you appreciate the reasons behind such a policy and understand the work and finacial commitment that goes into an event in the lead up, such as staff hours, merchandise buying and marketing. And having to cancel or having a large number of request for refunds can make future events unsustainable. We also very much appreciate the time and financial commitment you have put into training and preparing for an event and the frustration you have at it being postponed. That is why we try to be as fair as possible in dealing with these matters.

Our insurance does not cover cancellations, However I know there are companies that cover individual competitors for entry fees on cancelled events. If you do a large amount of events and ones of high value this may be something to look into.

We would also like to thank our many customers of the the years for their support 99.99% of which are very understanding and are true event athletes when nature strikes.

The RDS Ultra 40

Sunday 28th March 2021

New for 2021 is the Ras Dewi Sant Ultra (RDS40). A 40 mile Ultra and like all the other RDS distances will be predominately on the Coast Path and the surrounding trails of St Davids and of course finishing off in Britians smallest city.

To combat any Covid-19 restrictions on the numbers we are allowed and the social distancing measures that are required to ensure the event is run as safely as possible it will be held on the Sunday. This is the day after the other RDS distances. The route has been altered from the original posted to ensure we can manage any restrictions that may be in place at the time. Such as not using transport with a full bus.

What is expected of you

40 Miles with the majority on the Coast Path in March is a challenge for anyone, so respect the distance, conditions and course

The event will have staggered start times.

Starting times will be between 0700hrs and 0800hrs. And there will be a strict finish time of 1800hrs. Therefore realistically you will have to be able to maintain a pace of approximately 15 min miles to complete within the cut off. In addition to this there will be 2 other cut offs along the course to ensure all runners are on track to complete within the allocated time. These cut offs are for safety of the runners and support staff.

Cut Off 1 – 20 miles at St Davids (Location TBC) to be passed by – 13.00hrs

Cut off 2 –  32 miles at Whitesands Beach by – 15.30hrs

Cut off 3 – 41 miles at Finish Line St Davids by 18.00hrs

To help with achieving the cut offs, prior to the event we will be asking your estimated finish time, we ask for honesty on this and those who are slower can go earlier.

It is to be noted that the Coast Path is a tough terrain and exposed to the elements that is why we have a compulsory kit list and want runners to be experienced and have the ability of looking after their own welfare whilst on the course. List of Kit to follow.

Logistics

The full logistics will be posted nearer the time and once we have a better idea of what social distancing and Coivid-19 restrictions will look like for March 2021.

The majority of the registration process will be done via mail in the post, with only essential safety check ins on the day.

The exact details will be issued 3 weeks prior to the event. This is to prevent us from having to keep changing logistics and updating the competitors with new information!

What you will get

T-shirts and Medals are for those who finish within the cut off

1/2/3 awards for Open M/F and O50 M/F

3 times aid stations (locations to be confirmed)

Timed event

Event Cost = £50. In the event of the event having to be cancelled due to Covid-19 or Weather Conditions. We will either look to reschedule the event or you can request a full refund. No refunds will be given for competitors withdrawing from the event on their own accord.

The Event has limited numbers so book early – Thanks

The Route

The Covid Route as we are calling it! is a 20 mile loop x 2. We know loops are not everyone’s favourite, However we do believe that this route is so diverse and spectacular that it will not seem like a loop. You will have 4 rural road miles to cover and to warm up the body before hitting the Coast Path. From here you will have ups and downs and world class views as you head down the Northern Coast to the western tip of Wales. from here you will run along Ramsey Sound, before reaching Porthclais and heading back to St Davids, where you will pass the Cathedral and climb its infamous 39 steps. Before doing it all again. Each lap will feel different and there is a real possibility you will get the four seasons in one run.

The loops will allow you not to feel as lonely as you might be out their with the chance to pass by or be passed by other runners all good for encouragement and support.

 Muuk Ultra Running Series

The RDS 40 is going to be part of the Muuk Ultra Running series. A series that will see runners gain points for their placing in each event. With the overall winners, 2nd and 3rd place competitors receiving cash prizes along with their trophies. Due to the continuing Covid-19 restrictions we are not running the series in 2021 and are looking to stage it in 2022.
