Little Haven Regatta Swim

Sunday 4th August saw us open the Little Haven Regatta with our annual 1 mile swim. The swim leaves the slipway of the idyllic Pembrokeshire Fishing Village and does a one mile loop around the Markers situated in St Brides Bay.

The 2024 event had 63 swimmers with a real mixture of those training for IM, to those attempting their first event and to those who just love swimming in the Sea! For us at MUUK-Adventures, this is a great community event to be involved in and a good way for us to financially support the Regatta. But the best thing is two fold.

1) Working with the committee and their support crews, We always get a great welcome, which we really appreciate and make for an enjoyable morning.

2) Seeing all the regular swimmers and being able to watch them take on the challenge.

The Swim was a strange one, 15 minutes before the start it was like a mill pond as we finalised the buoy locations. Then as we started the swim and paddled out in our Kayaks, We could feel the wind and swell had picked up, which again just adds to the occasion.

The first Swimmer Home was Jake Scott who romped in on 22.39! he was followed closely by Marc Williams. Then 3 minutes later the first over 50 crossed the line, Local Man, Kevin Wheeler putting in an impressive swim for the 2nd year in a row to take the age group title.

The 25 minute to 27 minute window was a bit of a bun fight, with pushing and shoving to get the timing chip beeped first! (but all good humoured) It was in this window that the first female (Holly Thomas) came in and in doing so pushed her Dad out of the way to claim the family bragging rights.

Another regular Elspeth Lewis came in on 30 minutes to claim first female over 50 category. Well done.

The Distance!

As with any Swim/Event or the actual distance is always a talking point. We marked the buoys at 1 mile! I’ve seen a Strava saying 1.2 miles!!! and a few said they had 0.9, 0.95, 0.99 so as always, it was there or there abouts!!

Finally, The Little Haven Regatta Swim draws a close to our Summer season of Swimming events, It was another mixed bag of highs and lows with the weather, but overall we are happy! We are now looking forward to adding a few extra things to 2025, that will hopefully combat the weather! and maybe even a winter dip!
