Ras Dewi Sant 2025
The Following is a Safety and Logistical Briefing for Ras Dewi Sant, 1st March 2025.
All Distances
- Timing chips, They are wrist bands and are to be worn on the wrist.
- The number on the wrist band is your race number
- On finishing the race, you will have to scan your wrist band on the timing box at the finish line. Please make sure you do this and that it beeps.
- Then please return your wrist band to the marshal in exchange for your medal.
- If you register on Friday Night or even on Saturday morning and forget your wrist band or loose it, We may not have a replacement and your timings will not be recorded.
The Route (All Distances)
- Please view the route maps on the website and get some awareness of the course and your surroundings.
- The online maps do allow you to download the course on to your smart watches.
- When on the roads you will only be directed to turn off the road you are on by a large yellow sign with a black arrow or a marshal. Do not turn off the road you are travelling on unless you see one of these.
- When on the Coast Path, You must follow the wooden finger posts and the sign of the “ACORN” The acorn indicates the coast path route (follow this) Along the coast path route you will see a number of foot paths that head off the coast path (These will have finger posts with the sign of a walking man on them) Do not take these routes, Follow the Acorn.
- Whilst you are on the coast path you should be able to see the sea and have the sea on your right handside. If you can not see the sea or the sea is not on your right hand side. Stop, check your location and retrace your steps till you can see the sea and continue with the sea on your right hand side.
Route Specific – Ras Dewi Sant 2025
10K
- 2.1 Miles, You join the Coast Path at Whitesands (There will be water here)
- 4.2 miles you leave the coast path at St Justinian (Lifeboat Station) where you will head inland on the road and back to the Cathedral.
Half Marathon
- You will run on the road to the Hamlet of Treleddyd Fawr, here you will join a foot path that leads you up to the top of the hill, where you will see the sea in front of you. You will then run rown the hill to the coast path, turn left and continue on the coast path in the direction of St Davids Head. (The section from the hamlet to the coast path will be marked with signs and ground pins with barrier tape)
- Approximately 3.5 miles into the race. You will reach a gate on the coast path which leads onto St Davids Headland. Go through this gate and turn immediately left. You will then start to head uphill and will find your self running around the The imposing rock of Carn Llidi. Follow the signs an you will round the rock on its southern face and head back down hill to rejoin the coast path.
- 5.5 miles you will be at Whitesands. There is an aid station here near by the Lifesaving club house (Where the car park meets the beach), with Snacks and Drink.
- 7.7 Miles you will reach St Justinian (Lifeboat Station) at this point keep to the coast path (ONLY THE 10K TURN OFF FOR THE ROAD)
- 12.1 miles you will reach Porthclais Harbour. This is the end of the coast path section, You will join the road and start heading back to the Cathedral. (Porthclais is an aid station with snacks and drink)
The Marathon
- You will run for 6.2 miles on the unclassified coast road road to the Hamlet of Llanrhian, Once you get to the large cross roads by the farm you will turn left and head to the fishing village of Porthgain.(The road section will have sign posts)
- At Porthgain you will take the left hand side path along the harbour wall and turn LEFT at its end and head up the steps to join the Coast Path.
- At approximately 9.2 miles you will reach Abereiddy Beach. This is a check point, water stations and some sweet type snacks (This is not a full feed aid station like previous years, (This is the last check point / water stop till 16.5 miles)
- Approximately 14.4 miles into the race. You will reach a gate on the coast path which leads onto St Davids Head. Go through this gate and turn immediately left. - 18.7 Miles you will reach St Justinian (Lifeboat Station) at this point keep to the coast path (ONLY THE 10K TURN OFF FOR THE ROAD)
- 23.1 miles you will reach Porthclais Harbour. (Porthclais is a Check point and aid station with snacks and drink)
- 24.9 Miles you will reach Caerfai. This is the end of the coast path section and a check point, You will then follow the signs back to the cathedral.
- When going through check points please make sure they get your wrist band number.

Running on the Road – Ras Dewi Sant 2025
- All roads are open to the public for use by walkers, horses, cyclists and vehicles.
- Marshals on the roads are not there to, and have no powers to, stop or direct traffic. They are there for directional purposes only.
- It is the runners responsibilty to ensure they are safe on the road, at junctions, blind corners or at any other hazard.
- Runners should not be more than two abreast whilst on roads.
- Runners should not wear any device which impedes their ability to hear.

- The Coast Path will be uneven, undulating and slippy in many sections – Great care is to be taken.
- Sections of the course run along high sea cliffs. These sections are extremely close to the edge and a trip or fall can be fatal. It is extremely important that on these sections, you fully concentrate and run within your self. That you do not attempt to over take another runner (There will be plenty of safe sections to do this)
- The coast path is open to the public and you may face walkers coming in the opposite direction, or you may wish to overtake others going in the same direction. You sould give way and be polite.
- Gates, You will pass through some gates. Please close them after you. One year a person jammed a gate open for the runners behind and no one actually took responsibility to shut the gate. Resulting in Sheep getting into difficulty on the Coast Path. Please shut gates.
- Do not wear any device that impedes hearing.
General Rules
- No Littering, if seen immediate disqualification.
- At registration you will be given a wrist band (Put it on the wrist and not the ankle)
- The timing machine starts as soon as you hear “Go” and it then records your time once you cross the line and physically scan the timing band as directed by event staff.
- It is vital that you scan the timing band and hand it back, This is how we know your time and it is also very much a safety item, to help identify any missing runners.
- Be polite to all marshals and members of the public you come across. If something has gone wrong, don’t take it out on the marshals.
- If you go wrong on the course be honest with yourself, have you done your due diligence on course familirisation?
Kit List
Half Marathon and Full Marathon
The conditions on the Coast Path in early March can change extremely quickly, so dispite the forecast it is extremely important to dress appropritely and carry the right kit. It is not about how warm you are when you run, It’s about how cold and how quickly you get cold if you have to slow down for any reason or you get soaked in a downpour. (It will be a cold wind on the day)
(Do Not underestimate the Half, Its a tough exposed course and runners have struggled with the cold)
Mandatory
- Whistle
- Space Blanket / Personal Bivvy Bag
- Warm clothing, hat / gloves / wind/shower proof jacket
- Mobile phone
- Emergency food / drink
Advisory Kit
- Glow stick / flashing beacon / head torch
You do not have to bring your kit to registration on Friday to have it checked.
In the Event of an Emergency
If you are injured, fatigued or can not carry on for any reason and or see the same in another runner please do the following.
- Call 07855954702 for assistance
- If you are sending us your location, our prefered method is dropping a pin or sharing live location on watts app.
- If you are updating us verbally (Always best to try verbal first) We will need, as much detail as possible, the last land mark you passed, what mile your watch states you are on, any visible land marks you can see. (Certain areas will have no signal or it can be broken, and its hard to hear in wind. High ground is good, and or out of the wind)
- If you can contine walking, put on your warm clothes and tell us the direction you are heading. Or we will advise.
- If you can not walk or move, Put on your warm clothes and get out of the elements and we will be with you asap.
- Tell any passing runners to tell the next marshal they pass, where you are and an update.
- If you are running and stop to help someone, make sure you have warm clothing and get other runners to pass the message on as well.
- We will arrange for collection from the the best RVP. And return to the registration point.
- If you can not get hold of us, but your signal allows you to contact the emergency services and you believe that the incident is serious enough and requires an emergency response, please call for assistance but still get message to us.
