Abereiddy Swim 2018

The Abereiddy Swim 2018

The First staging of the Blue Monster started off with a Rainbow sprawling across the course, Which did nothing but to add to the rugged beauty of Abereiddy Bay. Which actually looked flat from the beach! But as the Swimmers headed out towards the Irish Sea, the wind definitely picked up and by the time the swimmers got back to the beach for an Aussie Exit, To head back out in a North Direction, towards the blue lagoon. The wind and chop had picked up making it feel like the swimmers were on a preverbal treadmill. Then as they U-Turned at the last boy into the Lagoon, The chop was up and sighting was harder meaning some diverted to do a bit of coasteering!

Before entering the magnificent amphitheatre that is the Blue Lagoon. Not an easy swim but then again it’s not meant to be. It’s and experience and a challenge!

The first four in all managed to break the hour, with Carmarthen’s Roy Thomas taking first spot followed by, Cardiff’s Adam Wardle and Cowbridges Phil Kibble taking 3rd spot and the last of the quartet to break the hours was Aberystwyth’s Jacob Massey and at only 15 a great effort over that distance.

The first lady in was Croesgoch’s very own Sarah Thomas. Getting some serious swimming form back. Even if she did look at me with a frown when I mentioned “Aussie Exit” saying something about preferring “Welsh Entry”

Whilst 2nd and 3rd Females were not far behind with Kilgetty’s Sarah Hicks taking 2nd although I think she is more at home as a skin swimmer, and 10 seconds behind her in 3rd was Haverfordwest youngster Lesley Evans.

The Blue Lagoon 1K Swim 2018

As far as 1K swims go this was an interesting one. Having to pass the several reefs and rocks that lie at the entrance to and immediate area surrounding the entrance of the Blue Lagoon, meant the swimmers had to keep their wits about them.

The Top 3 spots were dominated by the teenagers! With Tenby Brothers Owen and Lloyd Thomas taking first and 3rd place respectively. Whilst breaking up the Brothers coming in second place was the first female Lili Hutchinson of Cardiff, beating Swim to The Edge Black Run Winner Anna Bartlett in 2nd in the female category.

Then bringing up the rare was our sole skin swimmer of the day Mrs Bluetit herself Sian Richardson. A great effort by all in challenging conditions.
