Mountain Biking Morocco
The Atlas Mountains in Morocco are a magical place. They are home to Mount Toubkal (North Africa’s highest Peak), Many valley’s and hundreds of miles of unspoilt and barely travelled paths.
For our Mountain Biking Morocco adventure we base ourselves in the Imlil Valley in the High Atlas Mountains, amongst the Berber people. A region that lays 1700m above sea level, where you can cycle amongst the snow capped mountains in the morning and on 22 degree olive farm trails in the afternoon.
We stay in traditional Berber accommodation and are well feed on local cuisine, which can cater for all dietary requirements. We are supported by professional and registered local guides who have been born and bred in the Atlas Mountains and are able to take you villages untouched by time.
Mountain Biking Morocco is such a treat, there are single track mountain passes for the advanced, off road tracks that offer everything from climbs to exciting downhills to awesome views to technical sections. There are forest trails with some great routes and challenges that will get the best out of you.
The region really has got something for everyone and all abilities. However this trip is far more than just Mountain Biking Morocco, You will travel through unspoilt countryside, meet villagers who still work the land with methods from yesteryear and learn about the local culture and way of life as we pass by and stop and these Mountain Villages. You will gain an insight that will stay with you forever.

Flights – We have not included flights as it can be more inconvenient for you, if we dictate the Airport you are to leave from. Therefore it is often easiest to choose the closes to you. You will have to Fly into Marrakech Airport aiming to arrive by Midday. Later or earlier is not a problem just let us know. Flights range from £50 to £300 depending on the UK airport and when booked – Book Early – Skyscanner is good for deals.
Bikes – We have not included Bikes in the package as some people like to bring their own, this is not an issue and assistance and tools can be given to reasemle if needs be. The Bikes we arrange for you to hire in Morocco are very good quality and are maintained to a high standard. They are full suspension with hydraulic controls for ease of use. This is a personal choice.
Cycling Routes – We spend 6 to 9hrs out each day and will cover a distance of approximately 30km daily. The elevation increase and decrease will vary but expect undulating routes, with some decent down hills. For the very big climbs uplifts via mule or 4×4 will be used. Although routes are planned we have the flexibility to change these at short notice to ensure the group get the best and most appropriate ride for them.
Being Responsible – We try to make these breaks as ethical as possible by supporting the local people and their economy. All the people we work with are local independent providers and as a result they take personal pride in the service they give you. Whilst the monies paid goes directly into the local community. We ensure that they are suitably registered, qualified and experienced in what they do.
Frequently Asked Questions
This is a live document and will be updated as and when further questions are asked or we think a point needs clarifying
- Q. How much money should I bring.
A. Everything you need will already be paid for. However should you want to buy gifts or some snacks we suggest you bring local cash. (Moroccan dirham) In the Imlil Valley the stores are small shops with limited stock. They also do not have card machines or the facilities to change large notes. Please try and get change in Marrakech (10 or 20 dirham’s)
2) Q. Do I need vaccinations
A. Some common Vaccinations are recommended for details please see information from Travel Health Pro
3) Q. What Insurance do I require
A. You must have travel insurance that will cover any medical bills or associated costs. We will provide emergency first aid cover and emergency evacuation to the nearest hospital in the case of injury or medical emergency.
4) Q. Is Morocco a safe country to travel to.
A. For an informed answer please see the UK Gov Foreign and Commonwealth Website. From what we have seen and experienced the risk in Morocco is no different to any other country. The Berber people of the Atlas Mountains are very welcoming and tourism is a great provider to the area. This means it is in their interest for it to be safe for visitors. The guides that we use are all local to the area and this goes along way to making sure your visit is incident free.
5) Q. I have dietary requirements, will they be met
A. Yes, the catering teams will provide for allergies, vegan and any other requirement.
