2021 Muuk Ultra Running Series

As we come out of lock down and the disaster that has been 2020. We want to be  positive and look forward to 2021. We want to give those that like to take challenges to the next level something to aim for and reignite any loss of interest, or even build on a any new sense of motivation that has crept in over these strange times with;

The MUUK Ultra Running Series. It is our aim to create an Ultra Running Series in West Wales, That will see runners battle it out over a number of distances. You will take on the beauty and difficult terrain of the Pembrokeshire Coast Path and battle with your mind on the St Davids 24.

The series will be made up of 3 separate events, which will be run over an 8 month period and will offer great spot prizes for stage winners and a significant cash prizes for the series winners and placements.

The Races

1) 27th March – RDS 40 Mile Ultra 

This 40 mile Ultra will be run on the same day as our Ras Dewi Sant Events. The route will be pretty much be all coast path bar the first 4 and last 1 mile. 40 Miles might be modest for an Ultra but the route will be challenging and not to mention world class views, making this a spectacular challenge. The timing and cut offs in this event also make it a great training run for the MdC.

2) 1st, 2nd,3rd July – MDC.

The MDC is a real challenge and we can quite honestly say, it is as tough as anything, anywhere. As a standalone event it is the ultimate personal stage running challenge and adventure. Which see’s you cover the entire 186 miles of the Pembrokeshire Coast Path in 3 days. A staged race, with long days, daily cut offs and mandatory rest periods. 3) 4th December  – The St Davids 24hr

There is not many ways of flowering this one up. It is basically how much ground can you cover in 24hrs. The event will be based on a loop within the City Limits of St Davids. It will be a real test of stamina, endurance and mental strength. The route will be on roads/tarmac (No trails). It will be winter so you need to be prepared for anything. But on the plus side you will become very familiar with St Davids Cathedral and although its during the short dark days, you will have the Christmas lights to keep you company. The 2021 Muuk Ultra Running Series 

A brief overview of the Series.

There will be 3 races over 8 Months. Each event will have a unique point scoring system. The awarding of points will be based on the position you finish and the difficulty of the race. The points system is displayed below and as you can see it’s possible to enter only two events and win but it will depend on what others do!

The Prize Money 

Male and Female in the overall following positions at the end of the series will win the following

First – £2,000
Second £500
Third £250

There will be separate spot prizes for the Age Groupers and for the first year this will be over 50’s (However it is highly possible that a 50 plus wins the overall event and then the cash prize)

Why Cash Prizes.
Ultra running, the mindset and dedication is something that fascinates us. We appreciate the effort put in by those who compete. As a result, we are offering a handsome prize purse for the series winners, With a view of awarding those who’s work rate, dedication and preparation helped of course by their natural talent allows them to achieve their goals.

And we do believe that it is not always the best runners that win Ultra’s but those that are the best prepared and prepared to push a little further. An ultra series over 8 months also leaves the field wide open as, form, injury, weather and the particulars of each course along with many other factors such as luck!!! come into play

Other Bits n Bobs

Although the series will have a prize fund, each event will be treated as its own race, with medals, awards, and other such extras. The events are open to all abilities and for many the challenge will be in finishing but for others it will be the lure of winning the series!

So, as we come out of lock down, here is a real ultra-challenge for you to focus on. Whether you are an experienced ultra-runner of new to the sport.
