Ras Dewi Sant 2022 (2020)
Ras Dewi Sant 2022
Well on the 3rd attempt we managed to get Ras Dewi Sant back to the St David’s Day weekend. With us having the usual 3 week lead up anxiety of playing Russian roulette with the West Wales storm season! We dodged a bullet this year and what a glorious day for running it was. A cold wind, not to be underestimated and a bit boggy in parts but lets not be too fussy.
We do want to thank all of the runners for showing patience over the past few years, It’s been a difficult and frustrating time for many and is not over!! We also feel for all of those that contacted us in the past week to update us that they had to withdraw, apologies it was a busy week and impossible to get back to everyone, whilst trying the get the event on.
Now for the Race.
40 Mile ULTRA
At 0615hrs, We had our first registration (Lenny in his 60’s) for the 40 mile Ultra, and when I walked past the Bishops at 2200hrs, he was still sat at the bar – Fair play to him!
0700hrs, 3 people took on the Ultra, leaving Fishguard for the long run home.
The Finishing order
- John Keat – 8hrs 14mins
- Lenny Hughes – 9hrs 20mins
- Karen Warlow – DNF (30 Miles at Whitesands) The light was fading, the wind was getting very cold so wise decision to stop. And 30 miles ain’t bad.
Ras Dewi Sant Marathon
A respectful 0800hrs start, One change this year was starting at the Bishops Palace and making their way up the hill and Cathedral steps (which received a few looks and comments!) then some road miles to Porthgain before joining the coast path for the return journey.
Local Running legend Sean Rice now “well” into his 50’s!!! lead for most of the way but to be pipped at the post by a youngster, forty something James Davies. All of which made for an exciting finish.
The First Female back was Swansea lady, Frankie Auditano on 4hrs 40mins, Frankie was delighted, after a few recent 2nds and 3rds, it’s nice to take top spot! With Lottie Vaughan and Jane Rees being the next two in and category winners in their own right.
The Ras Dewi Sant Half
The half and 10k gave the runners virtually a lie in with a 0900hrs start from the Bell Tower.
A battle Royal at the front, with 3 mins separating Jack Tremlett, Will Kernick, Steve Williams. And Elizabeth Tremlett Taking 1st spot in the ladies, With Beth Lance and Catherine Marks following her. The new course took us pass Beth’s front door, so no excuses in not knowing the route!
The biggest stand out on the finishing list for me was Steve Williams beat Alec Williams. years of playing second fiddle for Steve put to bed!!!
The RDS 10K
Fraser Watson has proved himself to be the king of the RDS 10K, beating a very worthy opponent Tom Sinton into 2nd. It is now time for Fraser to move up a weight and take on the the half Marathon – or straight to the Ultra!
The first lady in was Eleri Rivers, who to be fair gave all the emotions of someone who had just run a hard 10k, hard!! followed by two friends who were virtually neck and neck Francesca Cooper and Victoria Withers.
Now there were lots of other winners, in age groups and for personal reasons with stories to tell out there yesterday, loads of smiling faces from those who just wanted to finish it, and a lot of comments form those who just enjoyed the scenery. I may be biased, but I think the new half route is spectacular, the first 5.5miles are a lot harder than the previous course, but stunning and a real challenge. whilst the Ultra winner said to me, the whole course is stunning, normally you get, a nice bit and then a not so nice bit, but not here!
Overall it was great to get this one done, we had to make changes and alter things, found we had to adapt ourselves, but It was great to see everyone again and I love seeing all the runners and families walking around St Davids after the event. All of us with a sense of achievement.
A bit thanks to
